Fun fact - I completed my Master's Degree at the University of Kentucky, and both years I was there, I had the opportunity to attend the Kentucky Derby. If you've never been, they fail to show the general admission area - that's where I was both times haha, so I'm not THAT fancy - but a proper ticket to the Derby is definitely on my bucket list!
Additionally, the Mint Julep is considered the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, but less known is the Lily. The day before the Derby, the Kentucky Oaks runs and the winner of this race gets a blanket of lillies - thus, the official cocktail of the Oaks is named the Lily. They still serve this at the Derby and it’s so refreshing!
Although the official recipe uses sweet and sour mix, I opt for fresh lemon juice and agave syrup in my version.
